Having a baby? These days, throwing a baby shower is pretty much an essential for anyone expecting a baby. Gathering all the people you love, enjoying great food and company, and spending quality time together before you introduce a new little person into your lives is a great way to celebrate the gift of life.

Of course, aside from all the festivities and food, it helps to have a few games prepared for your guests. Baby shower games can keep the mood exciting and the laughter flowing. If you’re hoping to throw the best baby shower ever, try incorporating these fun baby shower games into the party plan.

Ice Ice Baby!

Ice Ice Baby!

Here’s a fun game to get things started. Ice Ice Baby is a simple game with minor preparation, and it can be performed with two teams playing against each other. Start off by finding at least 5 members for each team, and then ask them to form two parallel lines – one line per team. Once everyone’s ready, then you can start explaining the task.

What You Need:

  • Small plastic baby toys, small enough to fit into an ice tray
  • An ice tray
  • Water

How to Play:

  1. The night before, place the small baby toys in an ice tray with one toy per compartment. Fill it up with water and freeze overnight. The toys can be babies or anything baby related – like miniature baby bottles, miniature baby toys, and anything else your creativity comes up with.
  2. Make sure that each team member will have one ice cube to work with.
  3. The objective of the game is to melt away the ice to expose the toy.
  4. Players can blow on the ice cub, lick it, or do anything they want to melt it.
  5. The challenge is that players can’t break the ice and they can’t use their hands.
  6. The team with the most exposed toys at the end of the game wins!
  7. Designate 1-3 minutes depending on the size of the ice cubes you’ve prepared.

Guess Who?

This game challenges how well your guests know each other, and is a great ice breaker to kick of the fun and festivities. While it might require a little bit of preparation, it’s always fun to hear the outlandish guesses that some guests tend to throw out there in order to solve the question – who is that?

What You Need:

  • Baby photos of your guests
  • A pen

How to Play:

  1. When you send out the invitations for your party, add in the instruction for your guests to bring a baby photo.
  2. When they arrive at the party, collect all the baby photos and use the pen to label each one for their corresponding owners.
  3. Right before the games begin, while your guests are seated and finishing up their food, present each picture and ask them to guess who the person in the photo is.
  4. The guest in the picture being presented is not allowed to answer for their picture.
  5. Special prizes can be handed out to each person who makes the right guess.
  6. Make sure to return the photos after the games are done!

Don’t Say Baby!

Here’s a fun on-going game that will give your guests the opportunity to come up with interesting conversations throughout the party. Simple and easy, this game gives each guest the chance to win one major prize at the end of all the festivities, or at least when you say it’s time to find out who wins!

What You Need:

  • Baby pins and lots of them! At least one for each guest.

How to Play:

  1. Welcome each guest as they walk into the party, and put a baby pin on their shirt to wear throughout the party.
  2. The objective of the game is to avoid saying the word ‘baby’ in ANY language through the duration of the festivities, or until after the last party game.
  3. If a guest hears someone say the word ‘baby’, they get to take that person’s pin.
  4. To win, guests need to collect as many pins as possible. So the more pins a guest is able to take from other party goers, the bigger chances they have of winning.
  5. The guest who is able to collect the most pins at the end of the duration of the game wins!

Dirty Diapers

Dirty Diapers

This can be an icky game for onlookers, but blindfolded players can have a load of fun – especially if they’ve got a sweet tooth! Showcasing the ugly truth inside dirty diapers, this game can make your tummy twist and turn all sorts of ways! Good thing players will have their eyes covered the whole time!

What You Need:

  • Two clean new born sized diapers
  • An assortment of popular chocolate bars, melted just enough to make them gooey at room temperature
  • Two blindfolds

How to Play:

  1. Divide your guest list into two separate groups
  2. Request each group to choose one representative
  3. Ask the representatives to step out of the venue shortly while you instruct the rest of the guests
  4. Tell the groups that their representative will have to taste an assortment of melted chocolate. They can taste the chocolate as many times as they want. Their objective is to guess what types of chocolate are available to them for tasting.
  5. The groups will be in charge of responding with yes or no. Groups will be informed beforehand what each chocolate is.
  6. To avoid the potential of cheating, only one team will play per round. So teams will toss a coin to find out who will play first.
  7. If for instance, team A gets to play first, their representative will be called back into the room, fitted with a blindfold, and then seated at a table in front of the crowd. The representative for team B will remain outside of the venue.
  8. The diaper with an assortment of melted chocolate will be placed in front of the current representative playing for the round.
  9. At the start of the timer, they can use their hands to sample the chocolate, or lick it directly off of the diaper.
  10. Each team will be given only 1 minute to guess all the chocolate varieties.
  11. Once the first team is finished, the second team can take their turn.
  12. The team that’s able to name the most chocolates varieties in a minute are declared the winner

It’s probably one of the easy baby shower games you’ll encounter, but the fun mostly lies in watching representatives have at the chocolate which makes for an interesting and perhaps even disgusting visual! Try not to react too intensely as you watch your family and friends devour dirty diapers!

It Takes a Village

This challenging baby shower game puts parents and parents-to-be to the test. It’s hard enough to care for a baby the traditional way, but toss in a few blindfolds and handicap your players, and it becomes a fun yet challenging exercise that really proves – it takes a village to care for a kid.

What You Need:

  • 2 clothed baby dolls
  • 2 sets of baby clothes
  • 2 diapers
  • 2 powder containers
  • 2 baby combs
  • 2 blindfolds
  • 2 hand ties

How to Play:

  1. Ask for 4 players, to be split into two different teams of 2 players each.
  2. Position them in front of a baby doll placed on a table. Each team should have a separate table.
  3. Players should be standing side by side.
  4. Take the hand tie and tether the players’ arms that are closest to their partners. So if they’re standing shoulder to shoulder, bind their inner arms together so that only the outer hands are free to move.
  5. Fit each player with a blind fold.
  6. The objective of the game is to completely change the doll’s clothes and diaper while blindfolded and bound.
  7. Remove the baby doll’s clothes, change its diaper, dust her off with powder, change her clothes, and brush her hair. This is the sequence that players need to follow in order to finish the game.
  8. The first team to finish the entire process without removing their blindfolds or their hands ties are declared the winner!
  9. To make it tougher, add more steps to the challenge or switch up the player’s positions! Have one blind folded and one with hands tied. The one who can see will instruct the player who can’t.

Baby Names

Not quite your usual baby name game, this baby shower game challenges your guests’ knowledge about pop culture. Make sure to choose players who have a penchant for all things Hollywood and entertainment to make this game a surefire way to give your guests a real good time.

What You Need:

  • A projector and laptop
  • 4 small white boards
  • 4 white board markers

How to Play:

  1. Come up with a number of Hollywood movies, songs, TV shows, and everything else pop-culture with the word ‘baby’ in the title.
  2. Write questions for each title. For instance, in reference to the movie ‘Baby’s Day Out’, you can ask the question: what 1994 film features an attempted kidnap that turns into an infant exploring the streets of downtown Chicago all on his own?
  3. Your players will be guided by the idea that the answers to all of the questions will contain or relate to the word ‘baby’.
  4. You can also add quotes that have the word ‘baby’ in them, and then ask your players to guess where the quote is from
  5. As each question is presented, players write their answers on the white board.
  6. After a 30 second count, players should raise their white boards to reveal their answers.
  7. To make it even more challenging, you can divide your questions into tiers. The easy tier, moderate tier, and hard tier with 5 questions each. Points for tiers increase, with easy at 1 point per correct answer, moderate at 2 points per correct answer, and hard tier at 5 points per correct answer.
  8. This game is best played with 4 small groups composed of 3-5 members each.
